Mini-Moon Arrival
An asteroid named will temporarily orbit from September 29 to November 25, 2024, after being captured by Earth's gravity, creating a "mini-moon" phenomenon.
Discovered on August 7, 2024, by -funded (ATLAS), 2024 PT5 is approximately 10 meters long and hails from the asteroid belt.
Visibility and Safety
Due to its small size, 2024 PT5 will not be visible to the naked eye or through typical amateur telescopes; professional-grade telescopes are required for observation.
Experts assure that there is no threat to Earth from 2024 PT5, as its size would not cause significant damage in the event of an impact. The event provides an opportunity for astronomers to study asteroids further.
