Duty Details and Duration

has levied anti-dumping duties on five Chinese products, including Soft Ferrite Cores and vacuum insulated flasks, to protect domestic industries from underpriced imports. The duties will last for five years on most items, with aluminium foil duties being provisional for six months.

The duties range significantly, with aluminium foil facing up to USD 873 per tonne and vacuum insulated flasks up to USD 1,732 per tonne. Other products like Trichloro Isocyanuric Acid and Poly Vinyl Chloride Paste Resin also saw substantial duty impositions.

Trade and Regulatory Context

These measures, recommended by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), aim to ensure fair trading practices under the framework. They address India's concerns over a widening trade deficit with China, which reached USD 85 billion in 2023-24.

Anti-dumping duties are a common regulatory tool used by countries to level the playing field for domestic producers against foreign competitors selling below normal market prices. This action reflects India's ongoing efforts to safeguard its industries.
