A New Jersey Transit River Line train collided with a tree on the tracks early Monday morning, leading to the death of the train operator and injuring 23 passengers.

The accident occurred just north of Roebling Station in Mansfield Township around 6 a.m., with the train traveling southbound from Trenton.

Response and Investigation

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy expressed condolences and confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine how the tree ended up on the tracks.

River Line service between and Trenton is suspended, with substitute bus service provided. Authorities closed sections of nearby roads, including , for the investigation.
