British Columbia health authorities reported at least 64 cases of norovirus-like gastrointestinal illness linked to raw oyster consumption from various restaurants and vendors since Nov. 1.

Federal agencies have closed certain areas, including parts of , to commercial shellfish harvesting as part of the ongoing investigation into the outbreak.

Public Health Recommendations

The advises the public to avoid raw or undercooked oysters, especially for those at higher risk of severe illness, and recommends cooking shellfish to at least 90°C for 90 seconds to kill viruses and bacteria.
